About Luton Community Watch (LCW)

Luton Community Watch (LCW), formerly Luton Neighbourhood Watch (LNW), is an independent, volunteer‑led community safety and crime prevention charity serving Luton and Bedfordshire. We provide crime prevention advice, community safety information, policing and accountability updates, and public awareness resources to help residents stay informed and safe.

We work closely with local communities, Bedfordshire Police, local authorities, and partner organisations to support safer neighbourhoods, stronger community engagement, and greater transparency in local policing and public services.

Our History

LCW has served Luton and the wider Bedfordshire area for over 40 years. In 2024, we rebranded from Luton Neighbourhood Watch (LNW) to reflect our broader community‑safety role and our commitment to supporting residents beyond traditional Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help create safer, stronger, and more connected communities by supporting residents, sharing crime prevention advice, and encouraging local participation in community safety initiatives.

What We Do

LCW’s activities include:

  • Sharing community safety alerts, news, events, and crime prevention information

  • Supporting local Community Watch schemes

  • Promoting greater awareness of policing and community safety issues

  • Helping residents understand the roles of Bedfordshire Police, the PCC, OPCC, and the Police and Crime Panel

  • Encouraging reporting, community engagement, and neighbour support

  • Working with local partners to improve public safety

  • Helping residents access trusted safety resources

  • Promoting local events, volunteer opportunities, and community initiatives

How We Work

We collaborate with residents, volunteers, community groups, Bedfordshire Police, local authorities, and partner organisations to reduce crime, antisocial behaviour, and social isolation. Our work is entirely community‑focused and delivered by dedicated volunteers who care deeply about neighbourhood safety and wellbeing.

Our Independence

LCW is not connected to the NHS or healthcare services. This confusion has occasionally arisen due to our former name, Luton Neighbourhood Watch (LNW/NHW). We are an independent, volunteer‑led community organisation.

Our Purpose

We believe that crime prevention and community problem‑solving are most effective when residents, statutory bodies, and local organisations work together. Our purpose is to promote awareness, communication, and cooperation across Luton to help reduce crime and improve quality of life.
